Boat Storage & Club Boat Usage
Rowers looking to row on their own time in MCRA boats can sign up to take a Captains Test. The Captains Test has three parts: a procedure and safety section, an on-the water skills section, and a flip test. These tests are for the safety of all boats on the river. Once you pass your Captains Test, you can reserve an MCRA boat to row.
Membership is required to take the Captains Test, and the cost of the test is included in your membership dues. Please email us with any questions or to schedule your Captains Test.
For those looking for a bit more practice before taking their Captains Test, we are offering two Captains Classes in Summer 2026. To learn more, click here.
Note that a Captains Test is not required to use a personal hull. However, rowers must show prior experience and have a knowledge of MCRA's safety procedures and traffic patterns.
