Recreational Rowing

Row on your own time

Rowers looking to row on their own time in MCRA boats can sign up to take a Captains Test. The Captains Test has three parts: a procedure and safety section, an on-the water skills section, and a flip test. These tests are for the safety of all boats on the river. Once you pass your Captains Test, reserve an MCRA boat to row.

Membership is required to take the Captains Test, and the cost of the test is included in your membership dues.

Note that a Captains Test is not required to use a personal hull but rowers must show prior experience and have a knowledge of MCRA's safety procedures and traffic patterns.

Please email us with any questions or to schedule your Captains Test.

Row with a group

Rowers looking to row recreationally in team boats are welcome to come to our Saturday open rows! We welcome drop-ins and encourage all of our members to attend. See below for schedule.

If you are looking to row more regularly, you can join our Masters Competitive team. Our coaching staff designs workouts that allow rowers to continue developing their skills and fitness regardless of their background. And you can always join and decide you want to compete!
