Our Values
Respect
Rowing is the ultimate team sport. Speed comes only when every member commits their full mental and physical effort to the boat. We trust one another and treat one another with respect, regardless of age, ability, or background.
Safety
We uphold the highest standards of safety so that every rower can enjoy the sport with confidence and without unnecessary risk.
Integrity
Rowing cannot be cheated. Success requires the unseen meters that build fitness, skill, and resilience. We show up with integrity and grit, believing this sport fosters these traits in every part of life.
Equity
We are committed to making rowing accessible to all. Acknowledging the sport’s high barriers to entry and history of exclusion, we take concrete steps to expand opportunities for underrepresented groups in our community.
Environmental Stewardship
We row on the Androscoggin River and honor its health and beauty. Maine Coast partners with the Town of Brunswick and other organizations to protect and preserve this vital resource for all who depend on it.
Generosity & Volunteerism
As a nonprofit, our strength comes from the dedication of our members and supporters. Their generosity and service not only sustain our club but also enrich the broader Midcoast community.
Excellence
We strive for the highest standards in equipment, safety, coaching, and performance. Rowing teaches the rewards of setting ambitious yet achievable goals, both individually and as a team.

Our History
The final three mile stretch of the Androscoggin River in Brunswick, just upstream from where it merges into the great Merrymeeting Bay has been home to competitive rowing since the late 1800s.
The Bowdoin College Rowing team, started in the 1860s, built their boathouse here in 1876 and actively rowed and raced here until 1898.
Sadly, a change in the athletic focus at Bowdoin resulted in a move towards other sports and the crew team was disbanded and the boathouse torn down.
